A two-mile stretch of Famoso Porterville Highway was shut down for more than two hours Thursday morning after a deadly crash. Two trucks crashed head-on just before 6 a.m., sending both drivers to Kern Medical Center and taking the life of a passenger.

Tulare County authorities say a car theft suspect was shot and killed by a police officer as he tried to flee arrest. The suspect is identified as 25-year-old Joe Bowles of Tulare.

20 year old Rigoberto Palomares was operating a farm harvester on Famoso-Porterville Highway, near Pond Road, when 30 year old Rogelio Zaragoza crashed his pick up truck into the machine, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

A stabbing and alleged episode of spousal abuse Monday sparked a high-speed pursuit that ended about 70 miles north of where it started. The suspect, 25-year-old Layton Sand, was eventually captured in Porterville after crashing his Pontiac Grand Am.

A Porterville man was sentenced Monday to more than 17 years in prison for producing and distributing child pornography. Victor Isreal Martinez took digital still images of a girl under age 12 and transferred them to a computer.

The California Highway Patrol has released the names of the three people killed in a weekend crash on State Route 65. The crash happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday near Avenue 56 south of Porterville.
