The public was invited Thursday to chime in on plans for the Centennial Corridor Project. The route that's been selected will cut a wide swath from the Westpark neighborhood, and residents pledged to show up at the meeting with plenty of questions for Caltrans.

The Centennial Corridor project has been narrowed to six options that will be presented to the public Thursday. The project would give Bakersfield an east-west freeway through the city, connecting Highway 58 to Interstate 5.

Nearly 8 years ago, Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall wrote a letter saying the city would never support putting a freeway through Westpark. Neighbors say they are disappointed the city has apparently gone back on its word.
