Cal State Bakersfield, which became a full-fledged Division I member in 2010-11 and does not yet have a conference affiliation in basketball, could still be removed from the banned list because some of the school's data is still being reviewed.

Four sports teams at Cal State Bakersfield are on the chopping block because of budget issues. However, the teams are fund-raising to save their sports, and the biggest event was held Saturday.

With 81 teams, Division I wrestling is half the size of the sport in the mid-70s, Moyer said. Three more programs are on the chopping block: University of California system schools in Bakersfield, Davis and Fullerton.

Bakersfield's Jake Varner is the NCAA champion again. Wrestling for Iowa State, the Bakersfield High School graduate won the title in the 197 pound weight class for his second consecutive national championship.

Former Cal State Bakersfield wrestler Stephen Neal can't believe the wrestling team won't be back next season. Neal wants to do everything in his power to help raise the money and do whatever it takes to try and save the program.

On an emotional night, the CSUB wrestling team came through with one of its best performances of the season. In what could be the programs last home match, CSUB beat UC Davis, 39-4.

President Horace Mitchell is expected to announce Thursday that California State University, Bakersfield is cutting its roster of sports. Multiple sources said four or five programs are on the chopping block because of budget woes.

Arizona State escaped Bakersfield with a dual victory, downing the 'Runners 25-13. CSUB could only pull out victories in 3 of the 10 individual matches.
