The California Highway Patrol says a man was struck and killed by a train in Tulare County after returning to retrieve his lunch and other items from the car he had abandoned on the tracks.

The Kern County coroner's office identified the pedestrian as 56-year-old Juan J. Martinez, of Bakersfield. The CHP earlier said the pedestrian was from Imperial Beach, in San Diego County.
Jose Ramon Lopez Carreno was headed south on Browning Road near Garces Highway when he lost control and went into an orchard. The California Highway Patrol said it wasn't sure why Carreno lost control.
