More than 400 people gathered Thursday evening at Bakersfield Christian High School for its annual Christmas Fine Arts Festival.
The evening featured many of the talents of the students, including visual arts, drama, and instrumental and vocal performances.

The junior varsity baseball field at Bakersfield Christian High School was named in honor of former student Patrick Allen on Friday. Allen, a 17-year-old junior, died Aug. 15 from a chemical imbalance after participating in a school sports practice.

The first sweeps were conducted Thursday under Kern High School District's drug-dog program. A drug-sniffing dog searched Liberty and Foothill high schools, but no drugs were found.

Patrick Allen died Aug. 15 after practicing football in triple-digit heat. Coroner's officials said Thursday that toxicology studies and a review of medical records show that Allen wasn't replenishing essential salt in his blood.
