Portions of North Lincoln Street and Midway Road in Taft were shut down about 9 a.m. as Occidental Petroleum Corp. crews worked to cap off the leak, which occurred on Oxy property.

Alex and Cindy Jordan of Taft were shot and killed execution style in April 2004 in Ventura County. Nealy six years later, the man who killed them was found guilty of first-degree murder. It's a bittersweet moment of relief for the couple's family.

Kern County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting death they consider suspicious. Deputies were called Sunday to the 200 block of Jefferson Street on a report of a shooting, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Rogelio Pedraza Sosa was found missing from the Taft Community Correctional Facility during a Wednesday night head count. Sosa was serving a sentence for transporting and importing controlled substances for sale.

A potential reward of $50,000 is being offered to aid in the capture and conviction of a man who robbed a mail truck. The suspect, armed with a handgun, hijacked the mail truck on Oct. 16 at the intersection of Taft Highway and East Kern Street in Taft.

Taft police have arrested a man suspected of killing a 14-year-old girl in a hit-and-run crash. The suspect, Glenn Travis Russell, 46, was found Wednesday morning off Madison Street. He was reportedly working on the damaged front end of a white Jeep Cherokee.

Maricopa's police chief will not be slapped with a restraining order. Resident Lisa Chavez wanted the court order against the chief, saying he had harassed and intimidated her family after shooting their pit bull dog in September.

Adrian Perez, 18, has been transported back to Kern County after his arrest on suspicion of child molestation. A 12-year-old girl came forward in July to tell the Kern County Sheriff's Office that her neighbor on the 500 block of Rose Avenue was molesting her.
