Get rid of your electronic waste items the correct way without damaging the environment.  Electronic items need to be properly disposed in a safe manner.  But many people don't know how and simply throw away things such as computers and television sets in the garbage can. The Salvation Army is here...more to help.  It is having an E-waste disposal/Donation Drive on Saturday, April 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Olive Drive Church located at 5500 Olive Drive in Bakersfield. E-wast items include all electrical/electronic items including but not limited to computers, monitors, televisions, phones, fax machines, etc. Donations will also be accepted for items such as but not limited to furniture, clothing, appliances, and household items.

Start the cycling season by participating in this fun, well-organized ride to benefit the Asthma and COPD Education Center (ACEC). ACEC is a new nonprofit dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of those with asthma and COPD through direct services to all Kern County residents. The...more ride begins and ends at California State University, Bakersfield.  The ride will include a Century (100 miles), a Metric Century (62 miles), a 40 mile ride and a 20 mile ride. Families are encouraged to participate. Lunch will be provided for by Big Dan the BBQ Man and a festival with music, a raffle, vendors and activities will round out the event. Close to 500 of the best junior high and middle school musicians and singers from dozens of schools performed at the 63rd Annual Kern County Honor Music Festival. It took a lot of effort to make it to the premier performance.

Brooks Thompson said he has a warped sense of humor. It apparently landed in him in trouble with the law, as he faces a felony charge of attempting to possess a bomb. Thompson said it was all a misunderstanding.
