A piece of history has made its way to Bakersfield. The Wall that Heals was brought down from Tehachapi to Bakersfield Wednesday morning in it's truck. Escorted by about 150 motorcycle riders, the wall made its way down Highway 58 to Highway 99 and into Stramler Park, 3805 Chester Ave. The wall...more will remain at the park until March 7. The wall is replica of the Vietnam Wall Memorial in Washington, D.C. It's 250 feet long and has 58,249 names inscribed on its black medal. All the names are those of men and woman who died during the Vietnam war. The names will be read throughout the day and night while the wall is here by Kern County residents. Along with the wall, there is a tent set up with pictures, names and bios of all the Kern County residents that died in Vietnam. The local veteran affairs group has also set up its mobile vet center, where any veteran can seek counseling or ask questions about their benefits. Admission is free to the public and the wall will be open 24 hours a day

A woman said her Pacific Gas and Electric Co. bills for the winter months have almost tripled since last year. Doti O'Dell, 66, lives in the southwest part of the city, and PG&E installed a SmartMeter at her home in November 2007.

Kevin "Bubba" Maxwell is a 37-year-old local truck driver who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in October of 2009. He is clinging to life at Cedars-Sinai by recieving increasing amounts of blood and platelet transfusions. If you have watched Eyewitness News in the past few weeks, you probably remember the black lab named Dakota. Dakota was hit by a car. Her family was forced by the animal control department to have her leg amputated or put Dakota down. Watch Dakota's Feb. 4 story below Her family did not have the...more money for the surgery, but after the story, Eyewitness News viewers wanted to help. Affordable Pet Hospital, 8150 Hageman Road, offered to do the surgery free of charge, but enough donations came in to cover the cost. Dakota's leg was removed Tuesday, and she is doing well in recovery.

CSUB student athletes are teaching kids about "Black History Month". On Wednesday February 24th, Wayne Lampart from the CSUB soccer team and PhyNique Aleen and Kelley Tarvar from the CSUB womans Baketball team visited Bessie Owens Intermediate School in celebration of black history month. The...more players presentations included the History of Little Rock, Ethnic Fashions, CSUB guest speakers and always a fan favorite, the East High Stomp group.  The group also performed a tribute to the late Michael Jackson. Black history month runs through the month of February every years.  Its to remember and honor people and events within the history of African American people. The deticated month was founded in 1926 by United States historian Carter G. Woodson.

Students from kern County will be showing off their history skills on March 6th in the 27th annual Kern County History Day Competition. The event happens from 9am -2:30pm at University Square at 2000 K street in Bakersfield. So here's how this all works. Students research a historical subject...more related to a theme, this year's theme is: "Innovation in History". Dozens of students have been working on their projects for months and enter in 6 categories such as exhibits, documentaries, performances, web sites, historical papers and posters. This event is broken down to a Jr. Division which are Jr. High and Elementary High school students and then the Senior Division that incorporates the High School Students. A winner will be picked for each category and each division.  Those winners will get a chance to compete in the State competition.  And then the State winners will get to compete in the National competition. Go Kern County!!!

Kern County District Attorney Ed Jagels said earlier this week that a state proposal amounted "essentially to the decriminalization of property crime." On Thursday, a state spokesman said Jagels is wrong.

A family is facing a tough dilemma when it comes to their dog, who has been part of their family for seven years. Dakota was hit by a car and needs surgery, but they family said they can't afford it. One hospital may be stepping in to help, though.

A man and his daughter were attacked by a raccoon Sunday at the California Living Museum. The raccoon bit 8-year-old McKenzie Smith in the leg before her father, Ian Smith, was able to get it off of her, the father said.
